Parametric optimisation

Quark

Per-sector cell database parameter optimisation.

The problem

Two decades of network growth have layered cell sites, capacity expansions and dual-band introductions onto networks whose physical and database parameters were never revisited. Most cells still run default settings, or settings identical to every other cell, across a significant parameter set — regardless of their geography, traffic, coverage area or neighbour relations.

What Quark does

Quark is a multi-vendor, multi-technology solution that optimises key cell database parameters at sector level. It takes network configuration and statistics from the OSS and tunes each sector to its actual conditions, lifting performance while holding down both capital and operating expenditure. Quark supports GSM, UMTS and LTE, including interworking between them.

Why it deploys quickly

Quark runs on input data operators already collect from their OSS. Its recommendations are soft changes, implementable from the network centre without field visits — so a full network can be optimised quickly and cheaply.

Planning

Lattice

Automatic frequency, PSC, PCI and neighbour-list planning.

Lattice produces frequency, PSC, PCI and neighbour-list plans from live OSS data. Its advantage over prediction-led planning is that it works from what subscribers actually experienced.

In a three-step process, Lattice imports network data, generates an interference matrix and applies a suite of proprietary algorithms to produce the plan.

What that makes possible

An interference matrix built from live OSS measurement reports, reflecting the behaviour of subscribers across the whole network — so the plan is weighted according to real traffic rather than modelled traffic.

Missing neighbours are identified from reports by actual handsets, so neighbour lists can be audited and corrected automatically. Cells causing excessive interference through antenna overshoot are identified and prioritised for the optimisation team.

Multiple planning scenarios — band splits, hopping strategies — are simulated and evaluated against the baseline before anything is committed to the network.

Visualisation and analytics

Tracer

Network visualisation, analytics and troubleshooting.

Tracer lets operators see, analyse and troubleshoot RF performance problems across a network — from the whole network down to an individual cell.

It collects, post-processes and analyses data from the network configuration database, from multiple performance data sources including call traces, and from drive tests, then generates KPI reports across all of it.

Built-in optimisation algorithms and analysis logic identify root causes directly, so engineers are not working through the analysis by hand before they can start fixing anything. Tracer fits into daily operations and network expansion work, and can be tailored to a specific operator's optimisation scenarios.

Drive test

Tracer Drive

Automated drive-test analysis and troubleshooting.

The problem

Operators drive-test regularly and generate enormous volumes of data. Analysed properly, it would materially improve network performance. In practice, the trained people and the time are rarely both available, so most of that data is never fully used.

What Tracer Drive does

It performs focused, automated analysis of drive test data, isolates the problem areas and hands the optimisation engineer a short list worth acting on. Available for GSM, UMTS and LTE.

Spectrum refarming and network consolidation.

Fission is built specifically for spectrum refarming — the transition to a changed spectrum scenario, done without damaging the experience subscribers currently have.

Working from configuration management, performance management and traffic recording data, it targets optimal spectral efficiency while limiting the impact on customer-perceived quality.

Fission is equally applicable to network consolidation projects.
